The Far North
Multi-Day Tour
Day 1
From Inverness and Strathpeffer we head west by way of Achnasheen and Achnashellach to the remote Applecross peninsula from where we drive round the coast to the magnificent mountains of Torridon.
Day 2
North now along the shores of Loch Maree to Inverewe Gardens (magnificent even on a wet day since they are so sheltered). Our destination is the small fishing and ferry port of Ullapool in which you can enjoy a leisurely afternoon.
Day 3
Ben Mor Coigach, Cul Mor, Suilven, Quinag - mystical names and mountains to savour as we continue north up the magical West Coast, sometimes described as the last wilderness area in Europe. Our destination for the night is the intriguingly named village of Tongue.
Day 4
In the morning we visit Strathnaver, scene of the most brutal of the Clearances, before travelling on to John o' Groats and Duncansby Head where the 70 metre cliffs support large seabird colonies. South now, following the coast to the shores of the Dornoch Firth.
Day 5
A leisurely final day when we explore the more gentle landscape of Easter Ross and the Black Isle before heading back home.
