Oban, Mull, Iona and Moidart
Multi-Day Tour
Day 1
Lomond, Long, Fyne, Awe, Linnhe - magnificent lochs to be savoured on the first day on which you pass through bonnie glens and visit romantic castles such as Inveraray and Awe, both belonging to the powerful Campbell clan.
Your first nights accommodation is in the Oban area.
Day 2
Over to Mull and Iona, the cradle of early Christianity in Scotland where the tranquillity has to be felt to be appreciated.
A tour of unspoilt Mull including Calgary Bay from where the Canadian city gets its name ends at Tobermory, one of the most picturesque anchorages on the West coast and where a Spanish treasure galleon sank in 1588 after fleeing from the defeat by England in the English Channel.
Day 3
Day three starts with a ferry crossing from Tobermory, the island's capital, to Ardnamurchan from where we will explore Moidart, one of the areas most strongly associated with Bonnie Prince Charlie.
We will visit the Glenfinnan Monument to the Jacobite rising of 1745 and (clouds permitting) enjoy probably the finest view of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
Our hotel for the night is in Glen Spean
Day 4
South now, by way of dramatic Glencoe, scene of the massacre of Macdonalds by Campbells in 1692, bleak Rannoch Moor and Strathyre.
We can visit Rob Roy's grave at Balquhidder and maybe even do some shopping in Callendar, the Gateway to the Trossachs, before heading home.
