6 Days / 5 Nights
Day 1
Meet in Stirling where we visit its magnificent castle and many sites
associated with `Braveheart`, William Wallace and the Scottish Wars
of Independence. In the afternoon we continue north by way of
Loch Lomond and dramatic Glencoe, scene of the massacre of the
Macdonalds by the Campbells in 1692. Overnight in Glen Spean
beneath the shoulder of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain.
Day 2
We now make an excursion to the west coast by way of the Corran –
Ardgour ferry, taking us into Moidart, which has many connections
with Bonnie Prince Charlie. We can also visit Smirisary, one of the
villages affected by the infamous Highland Clearances of the
18th/19th centuries. We return to Glen Spean, passing scenery which
you may recognise from the `Harry Potter` movies.
Day 3
The romantic Isle of Skye beckons. First, up the Great Glen, before
turning west through the dramatic scenery of Glen Shiel and crossing
the high pass of Mam Ratagan and on to Skye at the Glenelg –
Kylerhea ferry, the last of the small traditional ferries in Scotland.
Before crossing to the `Misty Isle`, we will be able to visit the
enigmatic Brochs in Glean Beag. Overnight on Skye.
Day 4
A full day to explore this fascinating island. Among our destinations
could be Elgol and the dramatic Cuillin Mountains (weather
permitting!), Talisker Whisky Distillery, Dunvegan Castle, home of
the Chief of Clan Macleod and the Museum of Highland Life.
Overnight on Skye.
Day 5
Back to the mainland now, as we head for Eilean Donan Castle and
Loch Ness (where you might catch a glimpse of `Nessie`, the monster
who allegedly lives in the loch!) and on to Inverness. Our destination
for the night is Speyside on the edge of the dramatic Cairngorm
Mountains. Overnight in Grantown on Spey.
Day 6
East and south now, passing through Royal Deeside, where the Queen
has her Scottish holiday home. We continue on to Scotland’s
Capital city by way of Perth, crossing the River Forth where we
get a magnificent view of the famous Forth railway bridge.
Your tour finishes in Edinburgh.
