About Alan and Ardoch Guides

I have worked in tourism for 20 years; much of this time spent in organising tours in Scotland, and have travelled extensively at home and abroad.

Iceland, Israel, New Zealand and Brazil were destinations where as a guest of local tourist organisations, I was able to appreciate their tourism in greater depth. My adventurous side means I have trekked in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, the Sinai Desert in Egypt and in the Italian Dolomites. In North America I have visited the Rockies and enjoyed a canoe expedition in Ontario's Algonquin National Park.

At home I have walked across Scotland four times (different routes!) and completed the ascent of all of Scotland's mountains over 3,000 feet. These activities have given me a different perspective of my country, emphasising the link between geography and man's place in the landscape.

I wish to share with you the pleasure I have had from exploring both the well-known sites, and some of the more remote areas. Remote or not, no place stands in isolation but is connected to what has gone before. As we travel, my commentary links the people, history and geography that make Scotland such an attractive and fascinating destination.

My particular pleasure is introducing small parties of family and friends to some of the less accessible corners of Scotland. Being in a smaller group enables us to talk and listen to each other whilst on the move; and the opportunity to leave the vehicle to walk a little... how else are we going to experience some of our more remote treasures?

Our suggested day tours provide a relaxed, comfortable itinerary from Central Scotland. Whilst the islands of Mull or Arran, and even Loch Ness, can be visited in a day, it does involve sitting in the vehicle for long periods and for this reason we would recommend our extended tours to really experience Scotland at its best.

I would, of course, meet you on your arrival in Scotland and at this point you can really say that your holiday has begun.

Alan Mitchell
